How to Grow as a Salesperson

Most sales people ask, "How can I increase my sales?" Well, not just sales people, but anyone in business wanting to make money. Corporate leaders and entrepreneurs. Sales people and operations managers. Service and entertainment industries. EVERYONE wants to make a profit. (After all, we have bills to pay, right?)

But we're asking the wrong question of ourselves. The questions we should be asking are...

📌 How do I better connect to people? Yes, people buy based on needing a product or service but getting the sale from someone who could buy it from someone else or who does not need what you're selling requires them to feel so connected that they feel compelled to purchase it from you.

📌 How do I better build relationships? Clients buy because they feel connected. Clients return because you've built a relationship with them where they feel a mutual exchange of benefit and interconnection. Once you've built this with a client, they're more likely to refer you to friends and family.

📌 How do I better understand people? In order to connect and build a relationship, especially in sales, there is a certain level of insight or appreciation (empathy if you will) that's required so that you can see and feel the need of the client. What problem are they trying to solve? What's important to them when considering this purchase?

It's easy to simply force what we're selling down a potential clients throat (oh yes we all love the pushy salesperson, right? Not!) but realizing long term gains requires us to go deeper.
